Lars Hörnfeldt was born 1940 and lives in Slåtte, Östersund, Sweden.
Lars plays alto and soprano saxophone influenced by Lars Gullin, Lee Konitz and Art Pepper.
Lars started his musical career playing the accordion at the age of five but switched to saxophone after hearing Woody Herman's big band on the radio at the age of ten. At fifteen Lars had formed his own band performing at dances at places such as the famous Runeborg at Frösön, Sweden. During the fifties Lars played with tenor saxophonist Jan Henning Carlsson, pianists Ingvar Johansson and Lars Sjösten and bass players Sture Nordin and Björn Alke. Lars had a chance to meet and played with alto saxophonist Rolf Billberg and played at Nalen, Stockholm, Sweden, in 1957.
Performance Experience
Lars has toured in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Russia and the USA and Lars has cooperated with trumpet player Jan Allan in both in Sweden as well as Denmark.
Festivals where Lars has performed: Skeppsholm's festival, Stockholm, Sweden, Århus Jazz Festival, Denmark, Stockholm's Jazz Days, Sweden, Fasching, Stockholm, Sweden, Scarinska Villan, Umeå, Sweden, and "The Association Jazz in Umeå," Sweden.
December 1998 Lars participated in a concert at New England Conservatory of Music, Boston, USA, with Jonny Johansson, 9-string guitar, Bruno Råberg, bass and Gary Fieldman, drums.
In December -98 Lars did a tour around in Jämtland, Sweden, with Jens Söndergaard alto and baritone sax, Sören Bo Addemos, guitar, Jesper Carlsen, bass and Jeppe Gram, drums, from Denmark. The tour resulted in an invitation to record a CD with them in Copenhagen. Denmark, fall 1999.
Summer 1999 Lars participated at "Scandinavian Day" outside of Chicago, USA, with Jonny Johansson, 9-string guitar.
Teaching Experience
1988-90, Lars was teaching jazz improvisation at Framnäs Folkhögskola in Öjebyn, Piteå, Sweden.
Lars is currently busy teaching improvisation at Birka Folkhögskola, Östersund, Sweden.
